For Immediate Release: January 8, 2020

In response to Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address, Citizens’ Committee for Children released the following statement from Executive Director Jennifer March:

“If the Governor is truly committed to combatting childhood poverty and addressing social determinants of health in ways that improve the well-being of New York’s children and families, far greater attention needs to be paid in his Executive Budget to not only protect against harmful reductions of health and human services upon which the most vulnerable rely but increase investments to address significant unmet needs. New York’s children did not create the state’s budget deficit and they and their families should not shoulder the burden of budget cuts now. We need to see far greater investments in behavioral health care, affordable housing and rent subsidies, child welfare prevention, early intervention, and early care and education, among other programs, to ensure that all children are healthy, housed, educated and safe.”
