NYC Council Calls for Salary Parity for Early Childhood Educators
On November 1, 2018, the New York City Council unanimously passed Resolution 0358-2018 calling on the City to “Eliminate the disparity in compensation paid to teachers, staff and directors at community-based EarlyLearn NYC centers, as compared to the compensation paid to DOE instructors for similar employment.”
Many of you testified at the hearing in June where the City Council Committee on Education and General Welfare considered this resolution. A City Council resolution represents the goals of the Council but does not carry the force of law. We need to thank the councilmembers for passing this resolution and make sure that they keep pressure on the administration to fund salary parity for early childhood educators.
The resolution was developed by Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo and sponsored by 12 members of the City Council.
