A new report is detailing the impact the pandemic has had on the city’s families and children. The study, by the Citizen’s Committee for Children of New York, finds that, at the height of the pandemic, about 43% of households with children found it difficult to meet their usual weekly expenses. And close to 40% of families were at risk of eviction. The data also shows that while the number of children in city shelters has decreased, the length of stay has increased over the past four years.
Based on these results, the advocacy organization is urging elected officials to take swift action to reverse the trends and support struggling families.
Jennifer March, the Executive Director of the Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” to discuss the study’s findings.
