Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York works to ensure every child is healthy, housed, educated, and safe. Part of this vision includes access to affordable, high-quality early care and education (ECE) programs. As part of our data-driven advocacy, grounded in the experiences of New Yorkers, we take a multi-pronged approach to identifying practical solutions to increase access to NYC public ECE programs:
- We analyze data from city agencies on ECE program enrollment and budgeted capacity;
- We collaborate with ECE program providers, and child and family service providers broadly, to understand from their perspectives the opportunities and barriers for families with young children;
- We speak with parents and caregivers of children under five years of age about the solutions for accessing educational child care services that fit their family’s needs; and
- We share back findings from our work with each of these groups, as well as with government and philanthropic organizations, as partners in these efforts.
