Statement from New York State Child Welfare Coalition Regarding Governor’s Veto of Child Welfare Reporting Bill

Press Releases

December 16, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

December 16th, 2019

“As members of the New York State Child Welfare Coalition, we are sorely disappointed that bill S6427A/A8060A was vetoed by the Governor. We view the reforms proposed in this bill as essential to advancing New York State’s commitment to racial justice. Due to structural inequities, families of color are disproportionately involved in the child welfare system; these reforms are an important step in addressing those disparities.  We are eager to work with OCFS to move needed SCR reforms forward as they are essential to the economic stability, safety and well-being of NYS children and families.”
