NEW YORK, NY – In response to Mayor Eric Adams’ statement Wednesday on New York City’s shelter system, the Family Homelessness Coalition released the following statement:

“New York’s constitutional right to shelter is part of the fabric of our city. Threatening the right to shelter is not only wrong, but dangerous – especially for men and women and children of color, who make up the vast majority of shelter residents. Instead of flouting this vital part of the safety net, the Mayor should focus on policies that will actually address our worsening housing crisis.”
