Today’s guilty verdict provides hard fought accountability and a small measure of justice for George Floyd’s family, the City of Minneapolis and the nation. Black Lives Matter.

The path forward requires the continued calling out of racism in all forms and urgent and repeated affirmation of basic human rights.

We must continue to honor George Floyd and countless others named and unnamed who have died at the hands of police, by holding individuals and institutions legally accountable. We must go farther.

Pandemic recovery resources must be used to confront the triple crises in public health, economic decline and social injustice that have disproportionately impacted and harmed communities of color.

The work done in the coming months and years must result in sustained progress and justice in employment and housing, health and education, and community safety.
