Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo released his Executive Budget proposals for the upcoming 2017-2018 State Fiscal Year.  The State Budget is due April 1^st– and between now and then advocates and legislators will have the opportunity to weigh in.

There were a number of proposals that CCC believe will benefit children, including legislation to raise the age of criminal responsibility, and increased funding for after-school programs and pre-kindergarten.  On the other hand, there were also a number of proposals that CCC is concerned about included proposed cuts to the foster care block grant, and failing to increase funding for child care, homevisiting, emergency food programs, or rental assistance programs that would help prevent family homelessness.  In addition, CCC is concerned that there are a number of places throughout the budget where the budget indicates that if there are cuts by the federal government, the state will reduce its appropriations to the localities.

We will be working hard over the coming months to advocate for a budget that will make New York a better place to be a child.
