Yesterday, CCC stood on the steps of City Hall with City Council Youth Services Chair Eugene and our partners in the Campaign for Children to object to the Administration’s plan to cut summer programs for nearly 31,000 middle school students. Watch NY1’s video featuring our advocacy in pushing back against these cuts!
Together with Council Members, parents, youth, program directors, and fellow advocates, we raised our collective voices on behalf of parents who rely on these programs to be able to work and the 31,000 middle school students at risk of no longer having a program to keep them safe and prevent summer learning loss.
The report shows that the poorest children and those struggling academically – those who need summer learning the most – would bear the brunt of these cuts. A majority of the impacted neighborhoods are where families face the highest child poverty rates and include school districts with some of the lowest academic achievement rates in the city.
Thanks to your participation, we were successful in fighting cuts to summer camp last year. Now we need your help once again!
