Part Three: Economic Security for All

Join CCC June 8th at 1pm for the last of our three-part webinar series, Roadmap to an Equitable Recovery: A New York Where Every Child is Healthy, Housed, Educated and Safe, where we will will walk through data and findings from the new 2022 edition of CCC’s Keeping Track of New York City’s Children data book.

In part three — Economic Security for All — we will cover how after a decade of growth in median income among families with children, the pandemic resulted in job and income loss, disproportionately impacting the lowest income households, households of color, and female-headed households, with 35% of women reporting being out of work due to childcare responsibilities. The webinar will highlight the urgency of addressing the needs of children and families, including stable housing, accessible child care, and food and income security.  

Why This Matters 

This moment calls for imagination and action from all New Yorkers, and especially from elected members of state and local governments. This is a period of sweeping political transition in New York City, in which more than half of the City Council, four out of five borough presidents, and the Administration in City Hall have all changed guard.  

Join us as we prepare to take action to influence the city budget and advocate for more supports for children and families. The data in Keeping Track will be a critical resource in our continued efforts to keep the needs of children and families at the forefront of decisions made by government leaders.

About Our Webinar Series: 

Our Series, Roadmap to an Equitable Recovery: A New York Where Every Child is Healthy, Housed, Educated and Safe, will walk through data and findings from the new 2022 edition of CCC’s Keeping Track of New York City’s Children data book, highlighting the impact of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic on child and family well-being in NYC. In addition, we will highlight key policy areas we can mobilize around to ensure the needs of New York’s children and families are met so our communities can fully recover. 

May 18 at 9am | Part One: Enhancing Behavioral Health Supports for New York’s Children 

Part one will cover the state of behavioral health needs for New York’s children and adolescents, who already faced a mental health crisis prior to pandemic. The presentation will include a discussion of the actions City leaders can take to combat the behavioral health crisis and support children in schools and communities.  

June 2 at 4pm | Part Two: Youth Opportunities from Services to Justice 

Part two will explore data on youth justice and youth services. The pandemic brought into stark relief the inequities youth of color face in New York, and in particular their experiences with increased criminalization and lack of access to supportive, trauma-informed resources. This presentation will explore the need for youth justice reform, as well as opportunities to invest in afterschool, youth employment, and other community supports for young people.
