On February 28, 2022, Rebecca Charles, Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York Policy and Advocacy Associate, submitted testimony to the New York City Council Committee on General Welfare’s Oversight Hearing on the Impact of the Expiration of the Eviction Moratorium.

The testimony highlights the dire housing crisis facing families of New York City, where over 90,000 eviction filings have been submitted since March 15, 2020. Rebecca highlighted the lack of funding for or acknowledgment of family homelessness in Mayor Adams’s preliminary budget and urged the city to prioritize this issue by improving upon city prevention programs and increasing access to affordable and stable housing.
