On February 16, 2022, Rebecca Charles, Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York Policy and Advocacy Associate, submitted testimony to the New York State FY 2023 Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on Taxes regarding CCC’s ask to expand and enhance the Empire State Child Credit.
The testimony highlights the dire child poverty situation facing New York State, where over 325,000 additional children entered poverty as a result of the pandemic, with Black and Latino children being disproportionately represented in that number. Rebecca urged the state to combat child poverty by expanding and enhancing the state’s child tax credit to cover all children under the age of 18 and provide families with an adequate credit that better reflects the true cost of raising children.
