Testimony: New York State Executive Budget Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Public Protection Hearing

Testimony & Public Comments

January 4, 2018

On January 30, 2018, CCC testified before the New York State Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means Committees regarding the SFY 2018-2019 Executive Budget proposals related to Public Protection.

CCC testified in support of the Judiciary’s budget request and passage of the Child Victims Act, which addresses New York’s very short statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases.  CCC’s testimony also supported the Executive Budget proposal of $100 million for Raise the Age implementation, but urged the Governor and the Legislature to ensure that the funding ensures all counties are able to implement a full continuum of services.

CCC’s testimony expressed our deep concerns that it seems as though NYC will not receive any of the Raise the Age funds and all state support ($41.4 million) that is currently appropriated for Close to Home juvenile placement is eliminated despite the fact that Close to Home placements will triple when Raise the Age is implemented.
