Testimony: Education Committee Resolutions

Testimony & Public Comments

November 7, 2016

On November 22, 2016, CCC submitted testimony regarding two resolutions before the City Council Education Committee.

CCC’s testimony supported Res. No. 845-2015, which was calling upon the New York State Education Department to expand the State’s financial literacy and personal finance education curriculum to all grades K through 12. Enhancing the financial well-being of all New Yorkers requires starting to provide financial education at a young age.

CCC did not take a position on Res. No. 451-201, which was calling upon the New York City Department of Education to mandate school uniforms.  CCC’s testimony suggested that if this Resolution was adopted and/or the City did mandate school uniforms, that there be a citywide uniform so that children changing schools, particularly homeless children and low-income children, did not need new uniforms.
