CCC Testimony: Oversight: Reforms Of Homeless Services, One Year Later

Testimony & Public Comments

April 20, 2017

On April 20, 2017 CCC testified before the the New York City Council Committee on General Welfare regarding the status of the Department of Homeless Services’ (DHS) implementation of the 46 recommendations in their 90-day review released in April 2016.

CCC applauded the administration for the efforts to address family homelessness that have been made to date, including the more recent release of, Turning the Tide, a new plan to build 90 new shelters while eventually eliminating the use of cluster sites and commercial hotels.

CCC’s testimony looked at what the administration had accomplished to date from their plan one year ago and reiterated some of the recommendations from our testimony from last year.

CCC’s testimony also urged the administration to make additional efforts to improve the well-being of children and families in shelter by better addressing the needs of those in hotels and improving the processes related to educational stability for homeless students.
