CCC Testimony: New York State Executive Budget Education Hearing

Testimony & Public Comments

February 7, 2017

On February 14, 2017, CCC submitted testimony to the New York State Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means Committees regarding the Executive Budget proposals related to education.

CCC’s testimony supported Executive Budget proposals to better support education, including the increase in foundation aid, community schools, pre-kindergarten and after-school programs.  CCC also supported proposals to pass the Dream Act and extend mayoral control of NYC schools for three years.  CCC also supported legislation to begin consolidating the seven prekindergarten programs into one.

CCC’s testimony urged the Legislature and the Governor to negotiate a budget that better supports education throughout the state by increasing education aid, maintaining the foundation aid formula in the future, and restoring funding for existing community schools.  CCC also urged legislative support for proposed legislation that would strengthen New York’s laws to provide educational stability for homeless children and urged an additional measure to ensure transportation for those unable to travel via public transportation.
