CCC Testimony: Child Welfare Reforms At The Administration For Children’s Services

Testimony & Public Comments

May 7, 2014

CCC testified about the New York City Administration for Children’s Services’ child welfare reforms at an oversight hearing before the New York City Council’s General Welfare Committee on May 8, 2014.

It is critical for all three parts of the child welfare system – protective, preventive and foster care — to be strong and stable. CCC’s testimony expressed support for the City’s commitment to review ACS policies, procedures and initiatives in response to recent child fatalities and shared recommendations for the new administration. Notably, CCC supported ACS’ review of all Court Ordered Supervision cases and looks forward to seeing the outcome of the analysis.

CCC also expressed support for the establishment of a citywide Children’s Cabinet, and suggested that the City work to ensure that families leaving homeless shelters have the supports and services needed to ensure their children’s well-being.
