Statement from CCC Executive Director Jennifer March in Response to Gov. Cuomo’s FY 2021 Executive Budget Address

“Today, Governor Cuomo delivered his FY21 Executive Budget Address. CCC is encouraged by several of the increased investments announced, including an additional $64M to combat homelessness and $157M to expand the Empire State Child Tax Credit. These investment rightfully prioritize New York’s children and families, particularly those who already have the odds already stacked up against them. As the Governor explores reconstituting the Medicaid Redesign Team, we urge the Administration to above all ensure that changes to Medicaid ultimately preserve and expand access to critical services for New York’s children. In order to combat child poverty and improve the well-being of children and families across the State, greater investments are needed to ensure all children are healthy, housed, educated and safe. In fact, we know that early and consistent investments in children are the surest way to achieve better long-term outcomes in wellbeing for all New Yorkers as well as achieve long-term savings for New York State. As budget negotiations commence, CCC will continue to advance priorities that call for greater investments in children’s behavioral health care, affordable housing and rent subsidies, child welfare prevention, Early Intervention, early education, and investments that build on youth justice reforms.”
