On February 2nd, Rebecca Charles and Caitlyn Passaretti, Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York Policy and Advocacy Associates, submitted testimony to the New York State FY 2023 Joint Legislative Budget Hearing regarding CCC’s human services-related recommendations for the Governor’s Executive Budget. 

The testimony highlights persistent challenges experienced by children and families throughout the state. CCC’s recommendations call for universal childcare, an increased focus on primary prevention for children and families, the restoration of child welfare funding, investment in youth justice programs, increase in access to affordable housing, and intentional support and attention given to the behavioral health crisis. All the recommendations aim to mitigate escalating trauma, mental health crises, and housing and economic insecurity resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
